Issuesá -á Egress Width
Be aware that the lift may affect
the egress width of the stairway.á There are many design options
available to mitigate the impact on egress.á Generally these will satisfy building inspectors
and fire marshals.á These include:
òLocate on
widest stairs
òLand and
load off stairs
òManual
fold and auto-fold platforms
òAudio
visual alerts
òBuilding
fire alarm integration
òAuxiliary
power supply
òLift
impact drawings from manufacturer
ò
Handrails and Balustrade
Remember that installation of the
lift may require removal of the handrail or the
balustrade or both.á Often
these can be replaced by handrails and balustrades that are
built into the lift system by the manufacturer.á If going this route, ensure that the
handrail tube is no more than 1 1/2ö in diameter and is
mounted at the correct height with appropriate
brackets for use as a handrail.
